Precautions to take while working with new Telehandlers

A telescopic handler is a very useful machine that can be put to various uses in different sectors. The long boom they are provided with can help accomplish many complex tasks with ease. However, there are also a number of accidents that take place each year due to improper use of this machine. Therefore, there are certain precautionary measures that you need to take while using new telehandlers.

First of all, it is important to understand that not many people can operate new telehandlers. If you have a person operating a fork lift on your construction site does not imply that the person can also operate telescopic handlers. Though they may seem similar in their functionality, the telehandler has a boom that can move horizontally as well as vertically. This is unlike the operations of the forklift or any other machinery. As a precautionary measure, it is important to hire operators who have undergone a telehandler operator training and have the relevant license and certification to operate these machines.

There are a number of attachments that are provided with new telehandlers. Each of these attachments is designed for a particular task. While certain attachments are ideal for moving heavy loads, there are others that are best suited for lifting cartons and heavy boxes. It is imperative to ensure you use the right attachment to prevent mishaps. Not using the right attachment is one of the leading causes of injuries caused due to telehandlers.

Before using new telehandlers, you have to make sure that the attachment you have chosen to work with is secured in place. A quality inspection to determine if the screws, nuts and bolts are in place is highly recommended so it does not give way when a particular operation is in progress.
